It appears to no longer be on URC's radar as it (IIRC) cannot be controlled from 圆4 Win7/newer systems. You can control it via RF and control RS232/IR devices from it. Ebay has them listed about $400 with plenty in the $300 range. I picked up a 3rd for a backup about a year ago for ~$200. Other than replacing the batteries I've had zero problems and they still look stunning (non smoking/no kids environment). I didn't know the MX-5000 was out of production.

More and more devices use IP control and the MX-5000 works really well for that. I'm using MX-5000 remotes and Global Cache (itach) for those devices that must have RS232 control. Sticking with URC, does anyone have experience integrating with a 3rd party controller? Are there any good "generic" devices in the URC database that would work well for sending triggers to an HA controller? The remote has no idea of the MSC400's state/status (ie MSC400 can't cause a page jump).Īre there any alternatives to URC Complete Control that provide high quality physical remotes (with hard buttons) that can be end user programmed (don't say Harmony, I don't like their hardware or especially their software)?.

Now it's tempting to get a used MSC400, they can be had quite inexpensively, however as I research programming that, it occurs to me that when using the MSC400, it's really like programming two entirely different systems.įor example today, I have my MX880 programmed with a macro for "TV", it calls each required device's power on macro (check power status and send command/delay as necessary), selects all the correct inputs, and then jumps to the TV pages. I like the updated UI on the newer URC remotes.

Of these two, the MSC400 option is somewhat preferable since I'd be free to go with the newer URC remotes, or, keep my MX880. It seems to me like there is no supported (in production) way of using RS232/IP control from the CCP line, is that correct? It seems my only options are the MX5000 (IP control) or the MSC400 (RS232), both of which are out of production. Where it gets a little fuzzy is the RS232/IP areas.

I suppose part of the impetus for this is I've run into a few command on my projector that appear to only be accessible over IP and Serialįrom my afternoon of brushing up on the state of URC, it seems the self-programming requirement limits me to the Complete Control line. I currently have an MX880/MRF350 that I'm very happy with, but nearly all of my devices now support either RS232 or IP control and I'd like to move to that where ever it makes sense.

I'm also going to say self programming (ie I can get the software to program them). First of all, I really like my URC remotes, the form factor/user interface of them. I posted this somewhat in the MX990 thread, but this is really a more general question.
